You need to establish in your concept and in the fiction what and how your character is doing something that would require an Energy action roll to resolve. For example, having Energy 6 doesn’t mean anything on its own. It’s great if you build from a concept, but it can be tough if you’re used to picking mechanics to say something about your character. Character creation mechanics in Open Legend are almost completely dissociated. That would save him from having to invest into Movement just to make attacks with his swords, and he could use them to deflect enemy attacks when taking the Defend interrupt action. I suggested he take Attribute Substitution II, so he could substitute Creation for Movement. Creation isn’t really used for attack rolls. You use Creation to summon things, but he has the problem that he wants to attack with the swords. He wants to summon swords and fling them. So we sat down and talked about what he wanted to do.

Of course, I’m not going full anime with everything being silly and making no sense. I’ve hinted at this to the group, but I had to remind the player of that. However, I do know that I am generally going to be leaning towards something with more anime or JRPG influences than D&D. The intent is to reveal it to players closer to the first session.
I’m going to be working on it over the next month, but I do know a few things. We had a bit of back and forth over the nature of the setting. However, the way he described his swords suggested that they were neither creatures nor made of energy. His second attempt used Energy and the summon creature boon. If you want to fling an object in an attack, you describe your character doing that and make an action roll using Movement versus an appropriate defense (probably guard). Telekinesis just lets you move and manipulate objects. His first attempt was to try to use Movement directly, which gives him the telekinesis boon. He wants to make a character who summons swords and uses telekinesis to fling them at enemies and protect people (think Nashetania from Rokka: Braves of the Six Flowers). I have a feeling that character creation will be tricky. Talked to one of my players tonight about his character for my upcoming Open Legend game.
